Scalping Strategy
Scalping involves making multiple trades in minutes to profit from small price changes. Scalpers trade frequently to make small profits throughout the day, unlike strategies that aim for large gains over time. For traders who like quick decisions and disciplined execution, this trading strategy can involve 10 to 100 trades per day.
How Scalping Works
Scalping minimises market exposure by quickly opening and closing positions. Scalpers fall into two categories:
- Discriminatory traders: Use instinct to set entry and exit points and trade sizes.
- Systematic traders: Use technical analysis to make decisions instead of intuition.
Trading efficiency and profitability can be improved by understanding and applying scalping strategies.
Common Scalping Strategies
1. Stochastic Oscillator Strategy
This momentum oscillator compares an asset’s current price to its historical price range. Values range from 0 to 100, indicating market trends:
- When the %K line crosses the %D line from below, traders enter a long position.
- Exiting occurs when %K crosses %D from above.
2. Moving Average Strategy
Traders use two short-term moving averages (MAs) alongside a long-term 200-period MA:
- Rising Trend: Take a long position when the 5-period MA crosses above the 20-period MA.
- Declining Trend: Enter a short position when the 5-period MA crosses below the 20-period MA.
3. Parabolic SAR Strategy
The Parabolic SAR (Stop and Reverse) places dots near price bars to signal market direction and trend reversals:
- Bullish Trend: Dots below the price signal a buy opportunity.
- Bearish Trend: Dots above the price indicate a sell signal.
4. RSI (Relative Strength Index) Strategy
The RSI identifies overbought or oversold conditions within a trend:
- Oversold Market: RSI near 30 climbing upward signals a buy.
- Overbought Market: RSI near 70 dropping signals a sell.
