Union Budget 2025 Updates: Markets to Remain Open on February 1 – Know the Trading Timings

The Union Budget 2025 is scheduled for presentation on Saturday, February 01, 2025. Even though the stock markets usually remain closed on weekends, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced that stock exchanges will operate on the Budget day to accommodate trading activity linked to Budget developments.

It is not for the first time that markets will operate on a Saturday for the Union Budget. In an earlier instance, a similar case occurred in 2015 when the Budget was presented on February 28, a Saturday, and the markets remained open. However, the practice was not followed in 2016-2017 when the Budget presentation on February 27 (Saturday) did not involve trading activity.

Capital Market Segment: Timings and Sessions

The NSE has confirmed that the capital market segment will operate under regular timings. The pre-open session will commence from 09:00 am to 09:08 am while the normal trading is scheduled from 09:15 am to 3:30 pm.

Futures & Options Segment: Trading Schedule

For the Futures and Options segment, trading will follow the standard hours. The market will open at 09:15 am and close at 3:30 pm. The trade modification end time will be 4:15 pm.

Commodity Derivatives Segment: Trading Hours

The commodity derivatives trading will also remain open on February 1, allowing investors to manage positions in response to Budget updates. The commodities market is scheduled to open at 09:00 am and close at 5:00 pm while the trade modifications are allowed till 5:15 pm.
